We compile the following from papers received yesterday morning : . ' ,' , .... ! , The President and Colfax The Southern Mem bers to be Rejected. J..! Washington," November 28. Those who have thought that VIr. Colfax spoke in consistence with the views of the Presidentjwill be satisfied from the telegram hence. to the New York Times, to the1 ef fect that upon an interview between these person ages on Saturday last,' they differed, though it is hot likely in an il tern pered way. - I . . A few additional members of Congress j arrived here to-day, including Senator Trumbull, of Illi nois. No delay from factious movement in the or ganization of the House is anticipated. Instead of extraordinary exciting and turbulent times, which have been predicted, the presont indications are! in the opposite direction. It is considered that there is nothing in the political aspect which cannot ;be reconciled, both to the satisfaction ot tne rresiaeni and of Congress. The prospect, therefore, is that the House will be organized on Monday ,'and the President's message and tbje accompanying reports of the heads of the Departments be communicated to Congress on Tuesday, Mr. Colfax for Speaker and Mr. McPherson for Clerk, seem to have the entire field to themselves thus far Tor re-election. No one here, so far as can be ascertained, be lieves that any of the members elect from; the in-- surrectionary States, with the exception, perhaps, those from Tennessee and Arkansas, will . be per mitted to take part in the organization of the House. Indications of Another Utah War. ' Somebody wants to get up another Utah war, whether it is the ' Mormons, the Western! settlers, the army contractors, or who, we cannot exactly constantly written from say ; but letters are being! Salt Lake about the disloyalty' of the Mormons, and urging that a large force be sent and kept there. A correspondent of the New York Times says : ' It is my firm belief that in tbe spring1 of 1861 South-Carolina was more loyal to the Union than Utah is" to-day..' The character of the leaders and the followers in both have a striking resemblance. In both the first created and commanded the latter. ' During the short stay of Mr. Speaker Colfax in this city, he received a formal visit from Brigham Young at the Salt Lake House. While they were sitting together upon thel sofa, Brigham asked the following question : " Mr. Colfax, what kind of a delegate did Captain Hooper make for us in Con gress ?" Mr. Colfax replied, as any man must have answered, that he knew Captain Hooper -while in Washington ; that he was a gentleman, a business man, of courteous manners, attentive to business, and he thought he bad been a good delegate for the Territory. Let it be understood that Capt. Hooper had been appointed by Brigham as a Missionary to Europe, and was making his arrangements to leave. Immediately after Mr. Colfax's reply, Brigham put his arm over Mr. Hooper's shouIder,.and asked him, Captain, how would you like to goto Congress ?" -' Verv innch." said Captain Hooper, " if B : . you think me worthy." said Brigham This was f 4 Well, that is all right," in the presence of Messrs. Colfax, Richardson, Brass and Bowles. From that moment Captain Hooper! was looked upon as the successor of Judge Kinney, although his name had never been mentioned in that connection before. . His election foon after followed, but merely as a matter tf form, the voice of Brigham being the voice of God with the people. Judge Kinney, the former delegate, had endeavored to get an appro priation of $10,000 for government surveys; this was: the weight that pulled , him down. Brigham wanted no government surveys of lands the Lord had given to bis saints. This blunder will not be repeated. . - 1 j I '. A Murderer Respited .' V- . Nashville, Nov. 28, 1865. Frank Gurley, sentenced to be bung on Friday next, has, by, request of numerous citizens of Hunfsville, been respited by Brigadier' General Whipple until Buch time as further facts in his case can be submitted to the President. j . TROUBLE ON THE LA CROSSE RAILROAD. . Milwaukee, November! 28. The track of the La Croose railroad was torn up and a bridge burned near .German town, eighteen miles from this city, last night,-supposed to be the" work of the farm mortgagees, whVmortgaged their farms along the line of the road to the amount, of one million of dollars for the benefit of the road, which mortgages' being foreclosed, they threaten to destroy the rpad if the company fail to -make provision for the pay ment of the mortgages. Great trouble is appre- hended. j - . important rumor. , The Louisville journal says : There is in our ci ty a -rumor to which we confess that we attack some importance, though it does not come to us from any source, authorized to give information. j I His that a most tremendous quantity of. powder has accumulated and is still rapidly accumulating at Cairo, and that commissary's, quartermaster's and medical stores are gathered there for a hun dred thousand men. The rumor we speak of says that the stores have ; been ordered , South, but that the powder: so far as is . known, remains for the present at Cairo. Rumor lies like the devil some times, but does not always prove untruthful. Her long and swift legs, enable her to be not unfre quently the forerunner of authentic intelligence. RESPITED. Clerk. November 2S. i r 191 6w jETOA life insurance company. WILLIAM H. CROW, General Agent. Officb North 6f tub Capi ol. i Wilmington Street, Raleigh J FACTS TO BE CONSIDERED. THERE ARE BUT FEW SUBJECTS PRESENTED to the mind of man upon which there are not a great variety of opinions, and about which there are not pro tracted discussions. But there are a few facts so well es tablished, and so uncontrovertible that they are universal ly assented to. One is that all men now living, will soon be called upon to gather up their feet and depart to the land of the dead. ." One generation goetb, and another Cometh, and we have no abiding city here," is a matter about which there Js no dispute Another is, 'Of that day, and of that hoar, knoweth no man' " Whether death oometh at tbe twelfth hour or at the cock-crowing, is of equal uncertainty to all Another is. that when wife and children gather around us. to take their final leave, in that sad circle centres all our earthly interest. Tbe last earthly rational thought of Husband and fattier, is Wite and Children, (if worthy of sustaining such endearing relations.) ; Another is, no man living knows whatimav be the result ' of his efforts to se cure a competence for his family. ' Riches take to them selves wings and fly awav," has been realized by bow manv? Adverse winds of to-morrow, may take the place of today's prosperous gales; under currents which the most penetrating eye cannot see, or the strongest arm con trol, may in an evil hour sweep away the bard earnings of years. Another is, no man ev:r hus, or ever can assun e more sacred obligations, than Husband and Father; Hence it is said, that he that will not provide for his own house hold is ffors- than an infidel. ' Now. what Husband and Father is there bittliog with the difficulties of life, knowing as be must, that uncertain; ties attend every effort, and wail upon every enterprise, that be has not with earnest vc ice, and anxious heart, call ed to the future to unlock its barred gates and reveal to him the result of Whis or that undertaking. But the only voice that comes from that land of silence, is, Verily, thou knowest not what shall be on the morrow." Such are some of the few facts about which there is no controversy, and such are some of the uncertainties th t ever, have, ' and 'ever will, gather around our pathway through lite, and which have in generations past, and will in fenerations to come, trouble and' oppress tbe Husband and Father. Now in view of- these facts, respons.bilities and uncertainties, it js for you to judge and decide npon the propriety, necessity, and duty, of making a policv nn your life for the benefit of your family. Will it not relieve yon of your present anxiety to know that a certain portion of the fruits of your labors are secured to that family ? Remember that whatever you pay fur a life policy is paid to them. The stranger intermeddleth not with that. Remember also, that $5,000 paid to them- in that day when the heart and flesh shall fail you, will be more to them than $10,000 while you are here to provide for them. Also remember, that the amount tor which-you are insured will not be diminished in the settling of your estate, and that from generation to generation, Life Insurance has an swered tbe end for which it was ordained, as tully, to say tbe least, as any institution of man's creation, and that its primary object Was. aod still is, to secure the family against the stern, realities of want, and to relieve from corroding anxiety those who have assumed family responsibilities.-. . , Do you say " I know it would be wise in me to take out a policy and I intend t da so soon : but just now 1 want to use all my funds in my business " Friend, if it is wis. dom in you to insure at ail, it is folly to defer it, to mor row ia in eternity, therefore " Boast not thyself of to morrow," " Snfiicsent unto the day is the evil thereof." " Procrastination is the thief of time " The JBtna Life Insurance. Company offers you all the inducements to insure that can be tound in any company. Its assets are over, a million and. a , half. , It has a surplus of $300,000' over and above what is required to reinsure all its policies. Its monthly receipts are over $1 50,000 "And it fsiMtrinMoHthfy'lbearry-t.oOO policjes; "Its rates for insurance areas reasonable as those of any other well established responsible Company. It is paying as large dividends to its policy-holders as any other Company Its officers'-are 'competent business "men.1 Its "assets are as permanently and as safely invested as any other company can invest theirs, and from which as good interest is being received.
